Fate has a nasty of playing tricks on us – all of us – and no more so when it comes to the use of technology such as storage devices. Our data recovery Peterborough engineers are often posed with the task of recovering data from storage devices that seem to have perfectly operational one minute then failing the next, leaving you the user without access to the data that you need most.
It would be easy to put it down to experience and move on, instead choosing to buy and install a new hard drive and starting again, but now that computers are so much a part of our way of life it is hard to forget or lose the data that has been stored on their drives. Our data recovery Peterborough engineers have recovered many thousands of terabytes in the last twelve months that both business and domestic users simply could not afford to do without.
So why do hard drives fail? This is probably the technological equivalent to ‘how long is a piece of string?’ There is no one definitive answer because there is no one particular reason why hard drives and their other storage device counterparts fail. It could be general wear and tear, issues with firmware, problems with the compatibility of an operating system or the components within a storage device might have escaped the quality control department. Whatever the reason though our data recovery engineers are able to help recover this data and prevent you from losing what it took you many man-hours to collate in the first place.
BIOS, Firmware – what’s in a name?
BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a program that governs how your computer starts up once you press the power button. This program tells the computer in which order it should look for start-up files on the drives contained within it whilst firmware is the small but important program that is embedded either on the boot sector or a hard drive or logic board (if it is an older drive) that tells the drive how to behave in conjunction with the rest of the machine. If either of these two programs malfunction then it may be the case that your hard drive will not allow you access to your data and to which end our data recovery Peterborough engineers are on hand to help.
If you have switched on your computer to find the message ‘NTLDR is missing’ then it is likely that the boot sector on your hard drive has been damaged and with this in mind our data recovery Peterborough engineers recommend you power the machine down immediately to prevent further damage to the drive. Call us on 01223 655015 and speak to a member of our team who will provide you with (a) a no obligation quote, (b) a preliminary diagnosis of the problem and (c) details of our No Fix No Fee guarantee. If you are happy that we can recover your data we ask that you forward the drive to us here at our data recovery Peterborough and Cambridgeshire centre. You can do this by post, courier or in person if you like.
Once we have your storage device our data recovery Peterborough engineers will make a firm diagnosis of the problem and report back to you via email. Our email will contain details of the problem plus a comprehensive list of all the data that can be recovered (if the data exceeds our standard 30GBs of data that is usually recovered to data DVDs we ask that you purchase an external storage device from our stock). If you are happy that the data you need is amongst the data we can successfully recover we ask that you make payment to us by credit card, debit card or BACS transfer (we do not accept PayPal). On receipt of payment in full we will recover your data to your new storage media and return it to you via next day courier (the cost of which is included in your quotation). For more information, to obtain a no obligation quote or to book a failing storage device in for recovery call our team today on 01223 665015; our data recovery centre and telephone lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm (except Christmas day and Easter).
